How much do I need?
Energy Shots are fast carbohydrates, also called simple carbohydrates. They digest quickly and can be used for energy or stored in the liver or muscles for future use. Because they can be easily converted into glucose, they are considered "high GI (glycemic index)" carbohydrates.
On average, you need a total of 60g of carbohydrates per hour. So everything including what is in your water bottle. One Shot contains 15g of carbohydrates. Depending on your fitness and intensity, you typically take Energy Shots later in your ride.

FAQ
An Energy Shot is a delicious alternative to energy gels, made with a nutritious mix of 100% natural ingredients to provide cyclists and other athletes with a healthy source of energy. They can easily be taken along during a ride. Typically as a quick energy towards the last part of your training or tour.
Kalkman Energy Shots provide energy from multiple natural carbohydrate sources in bite-sized portions that are easy to digest. Because they are made from natural ingredients, your body can recognize them more easily, which reduces the chance of stomach complaints.
Eating Kalkman Energy Shots during a sports activity will keep you going by slowing down the consumption of glycogen (the energy stored in your muscles and liver). This will allow your engine to run longer at higher revs, so to speak.
Our Energy Shots are available in a 250ml bottle, containing 10 servings. These are consumed with the specially designed and reusable Shot Flask .
With the Shot Flask, you can take what you need (up to 150ml or 90g of carbohydrates) with you—without the hassle of packaging or sticky hands. You'll save waste and always have your energy within easy reach.
Our Energy Shots are made with 100% certified organic ingredients and are therefore GMO-free. They do not contain high fructose corn syrup or other refined sugars. They are also free from artificial flavors, colors, binders and preservatives.
The Energy Shots are different from other energy gels because they are made from 100% natural and nutritious ingredients such as maple, apple and date syrup. We add some lemon and for example salt for further taste and nutrients.
Maple syrup (also known as maple syrup) is produced by boiling down the sap of maple trees to remove water. The natural sugar content then reaches 66%. This simple processing gives maple syrup nutritional benefits such as a high mineral and polyphenol content, a low glycemic index and a mix of carbohydrates. A natural source of energy.
Maple syrup is rich in nutrients such as potassium, magnesium and calcium, which you miss in a maltodextrin product. The glycemic index (the rate at which blood sugar levels rise after eating a food) of maple syrup is half that of maltodextrins – the most common base ingredient for traditional gels. Our products therefore have a lower glycemic index, which ensures more stable blood glucose levels during exercise, instead of a roller coaster of high and low blood glucose levels. Maple syrup also naturally contains a mix of fructose and glucose, making it easy to digest.

Our goal is to eliminate packaging from all our on-the-go products and replace it with reusable packaging. Our first solution is the Shot Flask.
All our products have a unique taste and are very easy to eat before, during and after exercise. This is because our products are handmade, from real food such as dried fruit, fruit syrups and nuts. This ensures that they have a unique and delicious taste. Mother Nature takes care of this, not a laboratory.
We only use 100% natural ingredients, without synthetic preservatives. This can make them more sensitive to heat than you are used to. That is why we advise you to always store our products dry and at room temperature, and not to expose them to very high temperatures for long periods of time. Once you have opened a bottle of Energy Shots or Hydro Drink, always store them in your refrigerator. The expiration date is stated on the packaging.
With the Shot Flask, you can take just what you need (up to 150ml, or 90g of carbohydrates). There's a measuring chart on the back. Five teaspoons is approximately one serving (25ml). But you can, of course, decide how much you take. Some people add up to 10% water to make it easier to get the shots through the spout. This isn't necessary. Rinse afterward, perhaps with a little soap, and you're ready for next time.
