Ron Nagtzaam

Hello, I am Ron Nagtzaam, born in 1966 and
raised and still living in Puttershoek, near Rotterdam. Married for a long time and together we have five children. After a career as an accountant, I still work at an accounting firm but at a somewhat quieter level.

From the age of six I played football and tennis. When our eldest was born I started running. Like everything with me it had to be challenging and in 1995 I ran my first marathon in Rotterdam and that is how my passion for running started.

Running is my passion, I have lived for it for 30 years. Everyone who runs, a lot or a little, can count on my appreciation, exercise is simply incredibly important.

After running many marathons at home and abroad, my focus shifted to longer distances. As I got older, my speed decreased and I can enjoy long endurance runs and races more. From the marathon distance, I went to 60 kilometer races and then a 100 kilometer race. The counter is now at 60 official (ultra)marathons.

backpack full of goodies

My first attempt at running 100 kilometers failed. Luckily, during that race I spoke to an experienced ultra runner and asked her what she ate during such a race. And she told me 'everything I like, but especially no gels and bars'. There I was with my
backpack full of gels and bars, which were meanwhile coming out of my nostrils.

Since then I have in my backpack: currant buns with jam and honey, banana bread, egg cakes, chocolate milk and bananas. And with that food I managed to finish my first ( and also second ) 100 kilometer race, a great experience.

In search of an addition to my backpack I ended up at Kalkman. I like the mission of Kalkman and the story of Chris Kalkman fits nicely with my experience, delivering a performance on normal healthy food and no artificial 'doping'.

Goals and enjoyment

At the moment my main goal is a 100 mile race in Berlin in August 2024. With the energy bites and shots from Kalkman and
I have every confidence in a very strong focus.

I have the trainer's diploma of the Athletics Union and my goal is to train and guide people in running. From beginners to advanced, from a 5 kilometer to an (ultra)marathon. I love to use all my experience and knowledge to let other people enjoy running. Every week I give training to a group of visually impaired and blind runners (Running Blind) with great pleasure.

I enjoy being involved with running, with other runners, with setting and achieving goals, and inspiring other runners.

Enjoying a trail through the forest and then seeing deer running or when things are going so well during a long endurance run that
I'm going to sing along to my playlist.

Running is fun.
